Everton majority shareholder increases stake in club

The majority shareholder of Everton has increased his stake in the Liverpool club.

Farhad Moshiri has bought an additional stake of just under nine per cent from the Grantchester family.

Mr Moshiri now owns 77.2% of the club.

Last September Mr Moshiri increased his shareholding from 49.9% to 68.6%.

At the time he said he he expected that to increase to 77.2% cent by no later than July 2019.

He bought into the club in February 2016.

Last year the club posted a second consecutive year of record revenues totalling £189m – a 10 per cent increase on the previous year.

Commercial revenue from sponsorship, advertising and merchandising grew by 34 per cent from 2017, reaching a record £20.7m.

Combined with gate receipts, sponsorship and other commercial income increased by 45 per cent from 2017.

The club is in the process of drawing up plans for a move to a new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

Everton finished the 2018/19 Premier League campaign in eighth place.
