Plans for a new hotel in Liverpool which wold create up to 150 jobs look set to be approved.

Signature Living, which is owned by Lawrence Kenwright, has applied for planning permission to transform the Cavern Walks devilment into 553-bed hotel.

A planning application was submitted in March to turn the office building which has been empty for a decade into a new hotel.

And a report to Liverpool City Council’s planning committee – which meets next week – has recommended that the application is approved.

The proposals will see levels one to sevenof the building turned into a hotel.

The Mathew Street store currently occupied by Cricket clothing store would become the hotel’s entrance.

A new floor level would be created between the lower and upper ground floors make room for a bar and restaurant space.

Cavern Walks was Signature Living’s 20th acquisition in Liverpool, giving the company a total of 1.5 million sq ft, an overall investment of £285m in the city.

Lawrence Kenwright said: “Cavern Walks has a special place in Liverpool’s heart.

“For years, it dominated the retail arena that saw visitors travel from all over the UK but, as retail and customer habits changed, the building has struggled to evolve.

“It’s a real shame that the office space within the building has lay empty for over ten years, along with a strewn of empty shops.

“However, with its illustrious Beatles history and unique location, we believe Signature Living’s expertise at giving large buildings a new reason to live again as a luxury hotel, will be integral to not only add many hotel guests to the new Cavern Walks – but also ensuring that the tone of the street is geared to a higher standard.”
