Energy supplier aims to plant one million trees

Manchester-based Eversmart Energy has agreed a corporate tree planting deal with Eforests that will see the energy provider effectively planting a tree for every new customer.

Established in 2006, Eforests is a not-for-profit organisation aimed at helping combat climate change and creating and restoring woodlands throughout the UK.

Run entirely by volunteers, London-based Eforests’ funding comes purely from tree dedications, tree gifts and corporate tree planting schemes.

Supplying gas and electricity since August 2016, Eversmart Energy has expanded rapidly by providing highly-competitive energy, marketed purely online and by direct mail, and now has nearly 40,000 customers UK-wide.

Under the agreement with Eforests, Eversmart will fund a tree-planting for every new customer that signs-up to one of its energy deals.

Eversmart Energy chief executive Barney Cook said: “We understand the environment is a primary concern for our customers, so, while 100% of our electricity is renewable, we are also always looking at ways to offset our total carbon footprint.

“That’s why we are working with Eforests on a commitment to planting a tree for every new customer that signs-up with us.

“At our current rate of anticipated customer growth, that gives us a target of around one million trees in the next five years.”

Andrew Haining of Eforests said: “We are really grateful for the support offered by Eversmart under this agreement.

“All funds received are put towards tree planting projects.

“To keep our prices low, we don’t purchase land but work with existing, publicly-accessible woodlands.

“We work with dozens of community woodlands, nature reserves, urban farms and wildlife trusts to help preserve and enhance woodlands and woodland corridors to benefit wildlife and our future generations.”
