Huge kebab restaurant to open in centre of Manchester

Doner Haus

A huge restaurant specialising in high quality kebabs is to open in a vacant unit in Manchester’s Corn Exchange.

The German style Doner Haus is to open in the site which was occupied by Byron Hamburgers.

The new restaurant  will serve  Berlin-style kebabs and currywurst.

The menu will centre around Berlin-style doner meat, served on sourdough flatbreads and Turkish flatbreads.

Sanjeev Sanghera, founder and CEO of Döner Haus, said: “It’s been found that in the UK doner is sometimes only as little as 25% meat, and that’s not what we’re about at all. Our meat content is extremely high, there’s no oil or wheat to fill it up.

“The best kebabs in the world are in Berlin. So we went over there – it was our first proper time off in about three years of working 100 hour weeks – and it just changed our lives. It completely changed our whole journey.

“In Berlin people order them as often and in the same way we order sandwiches.”

Doner Haus opened a Glasgow branch in November 2017 and since then the concept has been franchised.

There are a number of outlets including the popular Döner Shack at Trinity Kitchen in Leeds.

Sanjeev Sanghera said: “We’ve had other businesses coming to have a look and see what it is we’re doing differently. I hope we’re going to set a trend.

“We’re really excited to be opening in Manchester – it’s been about two years in the making.

“There’s quite a lot of similarities between Manchester and Glasgow, it’s a very similar culture and there are similar tastes when it comes to eating out.

“We’ll be developing the brand much more – we feel like our products are really hitting the mark and now we want to take a step up. Everything from bespoke kebab stands with our branding on to even better decor and presentation.”.

The ground floor of the restaurant will be split into four dining areas – the atrium, the main dining room, a conservatory and an outside terrace area.

Döner Haus hopes to be open at the Corn Exchange this autumn, and will be open from 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
