Parish hall sale opens door for new Chorley medical centre
A new medical centre for Chorley has moved a step closer to reality after a North West law firm concluded a deal to sell a parish hall.
Harrison Drury solicitors, acting on behalf the building’s trustees, advised on the sale of the parish hall at Whittle-le-Woods to Chorley Council which had listed it as an Asset of Community Value.
The property was marketed and sold by North West commercial property consultants, Eckersley, for an undisclosed sum.
The proceeds from the sale will be used to undertake essential work at St John’s Church, Whittle-le-Woods and secure its long-term future.
The hall has historically been used as a children’s nursery and for casual groups associated with the church, but the council will now look to develop plans for a much-needed new doctor’s surgery on the site.
Philip Venables, vicar at St John’s, said: “The funds released can now be used for renovation work and improvements to St John’s Church. On both counts this is good news for our community as we desperately need an expanded surgery and the church will be better suited to serve the community in the decades to come.”
Harrison Drury’s property team acted on behalf of the trustees of the parish hall in its negotiations with Chorley Council. The team was led by director Simon England with support from associate solicitor Nicola Beneduce.
Simon England said: “Finalising deals like this is very rewarding. The local community is set to benefit as vital funds can be used to preserve St John’s. It’s good for the church, the council and most importantly, local residents.”
