Plans for multi-million neighbourhood at Salford Quays unveiled

Developers have drawn up plans for a major new neighbourhood at Salford Quays.

The project includes two skyscrapers – one which will be 48 storeys and the other 37 storeys.

The scheme has been announced by developers Royalton and Frogmore and the new area will be called Cotton Quay.

The scheme includes 1,500 luxury flats with a public sauna, floating gardens and open-air baths.

The plans also include shops, two hotels one of which would be a landmark, waterfront hotel.

The multi-million project includes a new waterside promenade and a Copenhagen-inspired multi-storey car park.

The plans are being made public at two consultations over the coming weeks.

A scheme for 800 apartments on the site was granted outline planning permission just over three years ago.

But the developers say the huge demand for housing has led to the plans doubling in size.

The site is currently made up of office buildings and is part of the Salford allocation of the draft Greater Manchester spatial framework.

Royalton’s chief executive Ken Parker said: “Our proposals, which include around 1,500 new homes, match the ambition of the overarching strategy for this area while reducing the pressure to build on the borough’s precious greenbelt.

“Several aspects of our plans, from the floating gardens to the rooftop play area, are completely unique and will position Cotton Quay as the benchmark for new development across Greater Manchester.”

Outline planning permission is being sought for two skyscrapers, three other blocks of flats and a hotel.
