Work starts on 304-room Liverpool hotel

Newry Construction’s heavy machinery at work on site

Newry Construction has begun initial site clearance works for Elliot Group’s latest hotel project overlooking Queen’s Dock in the city’s Baltic tech district.

The 304-room Norfolk Street property will be the second delivered for Liverpool hotelier Epic Hotels.

The two companies collaborated on the Seel Street Hotel which opened last December in the Ropewalks neighbourhood.

“We’ve submitted a planning application to vary some of the façade treatments and the basement, but we’re cracking on with the initial ground works in the meantime,” said Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group.

“It’s good to be working with Epic Hotels again. They really understand the dynamics of the Liverpool market and their product offer is exceptional.

“Baltic has been crying out for a hotel of this scale and quality to serve the area.”

Baltic is the hub of Liverpool’s rapidly-growing technology scene and a focal point for much of its leisure, employment and residential development.

It remains home to a wide range of port-related and manufacturing businesses that have been the area’s economic mainstay for decades.

The hotel is one of three the developer is progressing, having announced plans last week to vary planning applications to include hotel offers at its Aura development, on site in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, and its Park Lane scheme overlooking the Royal Albert Dock.

The development takes to more than £1bn the value of Elliot Group schemes on site or in planning.

The company has live projects in Salford, Liverpool and Gateshead, with Newry also on site at The Address, the final building in Elliot Group’s £100m Wolstenholme Square project.
