New bar opens for business in Stockport

Cracked Actor

A new bar has opened for business in Stockport town centre.

The Cracked Actor on Little Underbank is the latest addition to the town’s food and drink scene.

The bar, which is owned by Joseph Patten, is located in a former general store and hat shop.

Joseph, who also works as an actor, has worked in a number of bars including Mobberley Brewhouse’s Project and the 53 taproom in Stockport Market Place.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “I moved to Stockport and saw what was going on and there was a bit of an atmosphere.

“Originally, I was looking around for a fringe theatre with a bar that could pay for the theatre, but then I ended up finding this building.

“It had been ruined by the 70s a little bit but it hadn’t been completely stripped back, so it was still quite original.

“In the 1800s it was a general store, that’s where the bar influence has come from with all the chemist’s drawers and stuff.”

The Cracked Actor is the latest addition to Stockport’s fast-growing night time economy.

The bar will have live music nights as well and events.
