50 jobs go at Manchester Tippers and Aggregates

EXCAVATION and site remediation company Manchester Tippers and Aggregates has gone into liquidation with the immediate loss of 50 jobs.

The family-owned business had been trading for 30 years and specialised in earth-moving for the construction industry.

Until the middle of last month, it operated from a five acre site in Langley Road, in Salford.

Manchester Tippers and Aggregates’ last accounts – which were filed to the end of February 2008 – show that it had ‘tangible assets’ of £2.4m, up from £2m the previous year.

The insolvency of the company is being handled by the Manchester office of RSM Tenon.

A spokesman said: “Chris Ratten and Jeremy Woodside, experts in recovery at RSM Tenon, have been instructed by the directors of Manchester Tippers and Aggregates to  assist in placing the company into Creditors Voluntary Liquidation.

“The company ceased trading on January 15, and 50 staff were made redundant.

“RSM Tenon was approached on January 19 to assist the company and a full decision will be taken at a creditors’ meeting set for February 11.”

The creditors meeting will take place at RSM Tenon’s offices in Arkwright House, Parsonage Gardens, Manchester.

Manchester Tippers and Aggregates’ website lists Alfred McAlpine, Barr Construction, Costain, Amec, Pochin and Bellway among its clients.

It also states that it operated its recycling centre from its Salford Site in partnership with Tarmac.
