Wates wins ‘major contractor of year’ double

PROJECTS undertaken by construction firm Wates in the North West have helped it win the ‘major contractor of the year’ prize for the second successive year.

The business, which has a regional base in Manchester, won the award for work undertaken over the past year including the £7m flagship Waitrose store, in Altrincham, and the £31m North Liverpool Academy, in Everton.

Following the awards ceremony, which is run by Building Magazine, Paul Drechsler, chairman and chief executive of Wates Group, said: ‘To win this award for the second year in a row is a massive achievement for Wates, particularly against such a challenging market backdrop.

“Our simple focus on building long term relationships, supporting the communities we work within, and delivering innovative and increasingly sustainable solutions is proving successful and it is fantastic to see that recognised by our industry.

“However, none of this is possible without the great people that work throughout the Wates Group.  They must all take enormous credit for helping the company to achieve this major award for the second time in a row.”
