TRACING its history back more than 2,000 year, Cologne is Germany’s oldest city and its fourth largest.
Although many beautiful gothic and architecturally significant buildings remain intact, the historic city was very badly hit during the Second World War, when around 90% of the centre was destroyed in Allied bombing raids.
