BBC commissions North West firms

BBC Learning has commissioned two North West firms to make two new shows which will be aired next spring.

The department, which is one of five which recently relocated to Peel’s MediaCity complex at Salford Quays, has commissioned a major new daytime drama and a series of children’s shorts penned by some of the country’s leading writers.

The daytime dramas are five, 45-minute episodes focussing on adult literacy and will be made by Liverpool-based LA Productions. They will air on BBC One.

The children’s shorts will be five, 15-minute episodes exploring themes such as friendship, parental illness and sibling rivalry. They will be made by Manchester-based Red Production Company and will air on BBC Two’s Learning Zone.
