Solar power offers transport firm cool savings

LIVERPOOL-based renewable energy firm  Eco Environments has completed a project which is one of the biggest roof-based solar panel schemes in the north of England.

The firm installed 1,077 Hyundai solar panels on to the roof of the Warrington depot of temperature-controlled storage and distribution company Cold Move.

The 250kWp system at the firm’s base in Golborne is 100 metres in length – covering almost half of the company’s warehouse roof.

The installation is part of Cold Move’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint by 25% by 2020 and should help it to reduce carbon emissions reduce by more than 100,000 tonnes a year. It should also generate almost 200,000 kWh of electricity annually.
Belvedere Energy Investments provided funding for the scheme.

David Hunt, Eco Environments’ sales and marketing director, said: “This is a flagship scheme for Eco Environments.”

“We are witnessing ever-increasing interest from businesses in exploring ways in which they can become more energy efficient and tackle the nightmare of crippling energy costs.”

James Woodward, Cold Move’s managing director, said: “We are delighted with the installation by Eco Environments and are already experiencing the environmental and financial benefits of the system.

“We will be seeking out further opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint with the introduction of low emission cars and potentially a wind turbine at one of our sites.”

Eco Environments increased its turnover to £6.4m in the last financial year, compared with £1.3m in the prior year. The firm employs 50 staff across seven offices.
