Profits surged at WFEL before sale

MILITARY bridge manufacturer WFEL - which was sold last month to German group Krauss-Maffei Wegmann for around £60m - boosted sales and profits in its last year as an independent business.Having made a bottom-line loss of £837,000 in 2010 - as a result of interest charges- it swung back into profit, making £2.3m in the year to December 31. The Stockport-based group - previously owned by private equity house Dunedin - grew sales by 4% to £36.1m in 2011.
