Law firm gunnercooke hails award win

CORPORATE law firm gunnercooke, which offers a fixed-fee charging model, is celebrating winning a prestigious award.

The Manchester-based firm, formed in September 2010 by former Hill Dickinson, DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard partner Darryl Cooke and former in-house leagl expert Sarah Goulbourne, was voted Corporate Boutique Law Firm of the Year by the readers of The Financial Times and ACQ magazine.

In the past 12 months, the firm has grown to nine partners and it has acted on transactions for businesses including Iceland, Greggs, Veolia, 2ergo and Shop Direct Group.

It is planning to open a London office later this year.

Darryl Cooke said: “Sarah and I wanted to challenge the way in which some of the large law firms deliver legal services, moving away from costs creeping, renegotiating agreed client fee terms, and poor management of transactions – all of which lead to clients overpaying for legal services.

“I am absolutely delighted at the reception that the model has had in our target marketplace, and to receive recognition this early in our journey is an honour.”
