STEVE Broomhead, the former chief executive of the North West Development Agency, is returning to Warrington Borough Council to take the top job there on an interim basis.

Mr Broomhead, who was chief executive of the council for more than five years between 1997 and 2003, is stepping into the role at the local authority next month when  Diana Terris leaves for Barnsley Council after five years at Warrington.
