Last chance to register for key Chile export forum

BUSINESSES have just a few days left to sign up for UK Trade & Investment’s free event Chile – Opportunities for North West Exporters.

The UKTI event will be held at Manchester United Football Club, Old Trafford this Monday, September 10, and offers companies the chance to meet experts in international trade and access opportunities across a range of sectors.

Chile is widely recognised as one of the best-managed economies in South America and has long been open to foreign investment.

It  has an extensive network of Free Trade Agreements and economic association agreements, and 91% of EU products can be imported tariff-free.

Although much of Chile’s wealth stems from its position as the world’s largest producer of copper, opportunities exist in many other sectors.

It is moving quickly to diversify its energy supply and there are opportunities for North West companies that can supply products or operate assets in power generation, transmission and distribution, particularly for those prepared to adopt a long-term strategy.

The construction sector is also vibrant, and there are major infrastructure projects planned to celebrate 200 years of independence in a project called Chile 2020.

These include the expansion of Santiago’s airport, the creation of reservoirs and irrigation canals, shipping and coastal infrastructure and a coastal road spanning two thirds of the length of Chile.

UKTI says there is also a strong interest in Chile in British education, especially with respect to school management, curricula, and educational technology.

The UKTI event is being launched by Felipe Larrain, the Chilean Finance Minister, on his first ever visit to the North West.

There is also one-to-one meetings available with market experts Paul Eadie, UKTI North West’s special adviser for South America, Tom Warwick, Head of UKTI at the British Embassy in Santiago, Claire Rason, Senior Commercial Officer at the British Embassy in Santiago and Cristian Lopez, Director of ProChile.
