WIRRAL Council has returned to its plans for an international golf resort at Hoylake.It wants to get a developer on board to deliver a top-of-the-range resort on 285 acres of farmland close to the Royal Liverpool links.It first mooted the idea in 2008 but it was shelved following the global financial crisis.The council owns about 160 acres of the land it has earmarked, but the area is classified as green belt.It made the announcement at the Royal Liverpool club which is hosting the Ricoh Women's British Open.Cllr Ann McLachlan, dep......for the full story register now for free or login below...

Good news....or is it? Why must the Council use its own land for this? there are plenty of existing struggling golf courses out there at the moment. Develop them? Also the NW coast is blessed with at least 6 world championship rated courses already.........a new course on this land could not compete (golfing wise) with what already exists........and you only have to look to Mollington up the road to see how interlopers fare in trying to break the mould....... Build a hotel by all means..........but do not waste time money and effort in trying to gild the lily! Folly and spin on the back of the Open hype..........
