Baltic Triangle to get first student flats

A PLAN to build the first student flats in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area is set to be approved next week.

A company listed as BPNW, based in Liverpool, has applied to build an eight-storey block with 64 apartments on St James Street. There will also be two office units on the ground floor.

The site is currently occupied by six empty shop units and a former pub.

The application, which is being handled by Make Architecture, is an amendment to an approval granted last year for 24 apartments.

According to council papers prepared ahead of next week’s planning committee, the applicant was “not able to progress a scheme for private apartments”.

The report states: “It is considered that the area requires further investment to continue to build on the promising regeneration gains made in recent years and largely halted by the current economic downturn.

“This scheme would bring a new lease of life to this block and would be in line with land use and economic regeneration policy for the area.”

The location is an industrial area that has been re-positioned as the home of the city’s creative community.

In the summer Neptune Developmentsgained planning approval for its £45m redevelopment of a nearby site opposite the King’s Dock area.
