The privately-owned company, which has 14 offices in Europe, the Far East, Middle East and US, said Mr Palmer, who has led the business for eight years would move to a non-executive role on April 30.

He will be replaced by John Sutton, currently head of the group’s international division, who will also join the board of Thomas Cradley Holdings Ltd – Suttons’ parent company.

He added: “John has managed the international division through a period of high growth and the board looks forward to him building on the excellent work done by Andrew. A separate announcement will be made about the succession in the international division.”

In the year to the end of April Suttons’ turnover rose 9% to £148.5m.
