LMH to spend £40m on tourist areas

HOUSING association Liverpool Mutual Homes is investing £40m in improvements to its properties located close to the city’s major tourist attractions.

Some 3,990 properties will have new fences and over 500 new roofs will be fitted. Around 4,200 homes will have roof repairs, and the communal areas of 140 flats will be overhauled.

Gardens and shared space will also be improved in the works which should be completed by 2015.

It is part of a strategy by the city’s economic development company, Liverpol Vision, to improve the main routes from the city to Everton FC and Liverpool FC stadiums, Aintree Racecourse and the docks.

The properties are on Waterloo Road, Great Howard Street, Vauxhall Road and Scotland Road.

Chief Executive Steve Coffey said: “We have a large number of properties in the area and this regeneration scheme will complement the £380m improvement programme we are carrying out to homes that sees us investing £65.8m this financial year.

“Residents will benefit from an improved standard of living and it will paint a far better picture of the city for potential investors and the millions of tourists who visit landmarks like the football grounds, the docks and Aintree Racecourse every year.”

The investment is in addition to an ongoing programme which has seen Liverpool Mutual Homes spend £380m on 15,000 homes that were transferred from Liverpool City Council in 2008.
