Angela Spindler lands N Brown CEO role

ANGELA Spindler, the former Asda and Debenhams  executive, currently running Burnley-based retailer The Original Factory Shop, has been named as the new CEO of multi-channel home shopping group N Brown.

Mrs Spindler will succeed Alan White on July 1, becoming the first woman to lead the FTSE 25o, Manchester-based business.

Other strong contenders for the role included long-serving group finance director Dean Moore.

N Brown chairman Andrew Higginson, said: “We are delighted that Angela has decided to join N Brown and lead it through the next phase of its exciting growth.

“She brings a tremendous breadth of experience to the role, most recently as a successful CEO, and the board firmly believes she has the personal qualities to lead the team, and the business, as it continues its growth online and internationally.”

Mrs Spindler, who plans to relocate from Yorkshire back to her native Cheshire, said: “N Brown is a fabulous business which has been very successfully adapted to benefit from the multi-channel retail revolution.

“I am really looking forward to working with a great team and to building on the momentum they have established.  The business has some excellent brands and is well placed to deliver growth both in the UK and Internationally. I am delighted to be joining.”

N Brown is the name behind brands including Simply Be, Jacamo, Figleaves, and JD Williams.  It has its headquarters on Lever Street in the city centre, a call centre at the Manchester Arena and a distribution hub in Oldham. 

Angela Spindler, who is married to the Dean of Manchester Business School, Professor Michael Luger, has been chief executive of private equity-owned The Original Factory Shop since 2009, where she has an expansion drive.

She started her career in marketing and sales with Coca Cola UK, before spending 10years in a variety of marketing and sales roles at Pedigree Masterfoods.  She then spent a decade at  Asda, in marketing, trading and retail development roles.

Her final position was managing director of Global George, a fashion business with sales of over $3.5bn across 11 international markets. This was followed by a year as MD of Debenhams, before joining the private equity owned Original Factory Shop in January 2009.
