St Modwen works up Great Homer St plans

DEVELOPER St Modwen is to submit detailed plans for the first phase of the Great Homer Street regeneration scheme in April.

In December the government approved a compulsory purchase order affecting around 200 land interests across the 45-acre site which has cleared the way for the development of the long-awaited project.

St Modwen’s Northern director Stephen Prosser told TheBusinessDesk.com that construction on site is likely to start next summer.

The £150m scheme has outline planning consent for a 114,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s supermarket, 80,000 sq ft of additional retail, 80,000 sq ft of industrial, 480 new homes and 40,000 sq ft of community facilities including a new library, market and community health centre.

He said: “We’re just finalising all the details to get the application in covering the first phase which is the supermarket, the associated retail and leisure. It’s been a long journey, close on 10 years now.

“It’s a much-needed scheme in that part of north Liverpool, and fully supported. After all this time we do need to deliver and that’s what we’re about to do.”

If the plans are approved site clearance will start later in the year. The scheme is being funded by St Modwen.

Mr Prosser added: “We’re in a good place, we’ve had another strong year in terms of the results and we’re well-funded. That will enable us, once we’ve got planning permission, to deliver Great Homer Street.”
