Jobs saved in Sellers Engineering deal

SOME 67 jobs have been saved at Oldham waste container manufacturer Sellers Engineering after it was sold through a pre-packaged administration.

Administrators from Duff & Phelps were appointed to Sellers on February 8 and sold the business on to Sellers Containers, which has retained all staff.

The only director of Sellers Containers is Clive Gallagher, a shareholder of Sellers Engineering’s parent company Sellers Ventures, along with Alexander Sellers and Kevin Philbin.

Administrator Steven Muncaster said the business had suffered from declining orders following a sharp rise in landfill costs.

He said: “The company fell into administration as a result of poor trading. This was as a direct result of the increase in the landfill tax from £2.50 to £64 per tonne. This increase had a dramatic effect on the industry and orders were cancelled.”

The company had annual sales of £5m-6m.
