Barclays to hire 50 apprentices at Cheshire IT hub

BANKING giant Barclays will hire 50 technical apprenctices this year at its IT hub  in Cheshire

The recruitment at the Barclays Technology Centre at Radbroke near Knutsford is part of the bank’s drive to help tackle youth unemployment and attract young people into technology-related careers.

So far, more than 100 young people have joined the Barclays Technical Apprenticeship programme at Radbroke.

Now entering its fourth year, Barclays has plans to extend the programme in London, US and Lithuania by the end of the year.

The bank has been a major IT employer in the North West region for 40 years.  More than 3,000 people are employed in Knutsford to maintain and deliver new IT services to meet Barclays’ needs.

Later this month, Barclays is hosting its inaugural Technology Employability Conference at BTC Radbroke to help improve awareness and information for academic leaders and teaching professionals in schools, colleges and universities across the North West.

Barclays head of infrastructure and site executive, Graham Bastin said, “We have an ongoing need to identify and hire talented people to work in technology roles. As an employer, one of our constant challenges is identifying candidates that have been adequately prepared through their academic studies for a technology-related career.”

“We want to create an IT eco-system in the area, working in partnership with schools, regional universities and other IT leaders to create a regional talent pool that we can all benefit from and stem the traditional migration of IT talent to the South East.”
