Manchester to play a part in Liverpool festival

MANCHESTER is expected to be involved in Liverpool’s International Festival for Business (IFB) next year.

The 61-day event in June and July was launched in London yesterday by a host of business figures.

Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool’s economic development company Liverpool Vision, said: “We have met with Manchester’s leadership and they will be taking part and having a place in the festival.”

It’s not yet clear whether this will mean events will be hosted in Manchester or the city will have a promotional presence in Liverpool.

The preview featured UK Trade and Investment minister Lord Green, Sir Terry Leahy, Lord Bilimoria, chairman of Cobra Beer; Charles Morgan of the Morgan Motor Company; and Julie Meyer, chief executive of Ariadne Capital.

Mr Steinberg added: “The journey to the IFB is underway. In it we will create something special and unique for business, for Britain and for the world.

“The support behind IFB is already phenomenal. From business to government, from nations to corporations we are building a world class team and a team for the world. In liverpool we are also building a powerful coalition of partners led by the office of the mayor.”

Events already confirmed for the IFB are: a global mayors summit with at least 20 mayors involved; international trade awards; an entrepreneurs’ festival; a cultural festival including a major festival on the river; and a Mondrian exhibition.
