Bennett Verby eyes acquisition targets

ACCOUNTANCY firm Bennett Verby said it is looking for acquisitions after recording a £1m hike in turnover.

The Stockport-based firm saw turnover rise 21% to £5.6m in the year to the end of December.

Managing director Bernard Verby said the growth was fuelled by new clients, an increase in activity across all divisions, a rise in corporate finance deals, and expansion into new areas.

He said the firm, which has 85 staff, had “ambitious plans” for 2013 and is looking to complete a number of acquisitions.

He said: “Our acquisition targets would typically be a practice with one to five partners which has a strong client base of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We are in advanced discussion with a number of firms and hope to complete a deal in the coming months.”

In 2011, the firm opened an office in Manchester city centre and last year completed the acquisition of Wigan-based practice McGinty Demack.

Mr Verby added: “It has been an excellent year at the firm which has seen strong organic growth on the back of a large number of client referrals and expansion into new areas.

“We are still in difficult economic times but I believe our traditional values of offering excellent client service at good value for money are key to our ongoing success.

“It is exciting times at Bennett Verby and we are now poised for a period of rapid growth through our ambitious acquisition strategy.”
