Coliseum Shopping Park changes hands for £81m

THE Crown Estate, the agency which controls property officially owned by the Queen, has bought the Coliseum Shopping Park in Cheshire Oaks for £81m.

The 145,000 sq ft Coliseum, which is next to the McArthur Glen discount mall, was sold by clients of Schroders. The park’s tenants include Next, Argos, H&M and Mamas & Papas.

It follows The Crown Estate’s acquisition of the 295,000 sq ft Racecourse Retail Park in Aintree, Liverpool for £101.5m in October.

Director of investment Paul Clark said: “[Our latest] lettings are clear evidence that despite a challenging economic climate regionally, an actively managed portfolio of prime retail and leisure assets will continue to attract high quality retailers. This is why we’re so pleased to add the Coliseum Shopping Park, with its prime location and diverse tenant base, to the portfolio.”

The Crown Estate’s portfolio of prime regional retail and leisure assets is now worth over £1.6bn. It includes 15 retail parks, one leisure scheme, and interests in three shopping centres. It pays its profits to the Treasury.
