Express Building up for sale
MANCHESTER’s landmark Express Building has been put on the market with a guide price of £9.5m.
US-based landlord A&A Investments has appointed DTZ to sell or let the art deco building on Great Ancoats Street which was originally built for the Daily Express in 1939.
It was given a grade II listing 35 years later and its design is said to have influenced the young Norman Foster.
Newspapers were printed on the lower floors until the late 1980s. More recently, it was home to Sport Media Group’s Daily Sport and Sunday Sport newspapers until its demise in April 2011.
David Sullivan bought back the Sunday Sport title but it is now run from the City View office building in Ardwick owned by Anvic Developments.
The available space totals 75,599 sq ft at £9.75/sq ft. The basement has parking for 36 cars and a multi-storey car park, built to serve the building, provides a further 141 spaces.
Simon Roddam, senior surveyor at DTZ, said: “The Express Building is one of Manchester’s most significant office buildings. The quality of the refurbishment and its high profile to the inner ring road should appeal to a number of occupiers who are finding the supply of quality accommodation in Manchester city centre limited due to the lack of new development.”
