£19m for auto and aero industries

A £19m programme to support and strengthen companies in the automotive and aerospace supply chains in Liverpool has been officially launched.

The Liverpool City Region and West Midlands programme is designed to help companies in the four Local Enterprise Partnership areas of Liverpool City Region, Greater Birmingham and Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire, the Black Country – all areas where there is a Jaguar Land Rover operation.

The new scheme forms part of the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI), a £125m national programme launched in April 2012 to improve the global competitiveness of the advanced manufacturing supply chain.

The programme will provide loans and grants to pay for capital equipment, working capital, R&D activity which improves manufacturing equipment, systems and processes, and specific training and skills development. It is managed by Finance Birmingham and provides minimum funding of £100,000.

The funding is available to firms working exclusively in the automotive or aerospace supply chain and will be distributed on a first come-first served basis. Applications can be from individual companies or consortiums. The money can be used for the purchase of capital equipment, working capital, research and development or training and skills development that supports a specific project.
