Jobs axe falls on 90 at Britannia HQ

NINETY jobs are set to go from the Britannia Building Society’s headquarters in Staffordshire.

The Co-operative Bank, which now owns Britannia, said the move was part of its plans to restructure its IT departments.

The bank said the plans could “ultimately lead to an overall reduction of about 90 roles” at the Cheadle Road site in Leek.

It said some of those were likely to be relocated to Manchester. In a statement, the Co-operative Group said the company was consulting with the staff affected and union officials.

A total of about 1,100 people work at the site in Leek. The Britannia Staff Union said it was “saddened and disappointed” with the news.
