Appointments: Beckett to head Irwin Mitchell division

THE Manchester office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has promoted commercial property lawyer Roy Beckett to the position of regional managing partner in its Business Legal Services (BLS) division.
 
Beckett, who joined the firm in February 2013 as part of a 14-strong real estate team from DLA Piper in Manchester, will head up the BLS team and take over from John Lord, who will focus on growing the office’s dispute resolution and insolvency offering.
 
A former office managing partner at DLA Piper in Manchester, he specialises in property development and investment work, including corporate real estate occupier work.
 
In his new role, he will drive the expansion of the six partner property team and target opportunities for other areas of BLS including corporate, commercial, employment, regulation, banking and insolvency services.
 
He said: “I have been impressed with the talent at Irwin Mitchell and believe the firm has the right ingredients to realise its vision and become the legal brand of choice in the commercial market place. Irwin Mitchell’s BLS team nationally has continued to expand, despite tough economic conditions, and we remain confident about our future prospects for growing our market share considerably across the region.”

THE Manchester office of law firm Browne Jacobson has appointed commercial partner Nicky Collins.

Nicky, who joins from Manchester solicitors George Davies where she was a partner in its corporate team, has been hired to develop and expand the firm’s presence within the commercial health sector in the North West.

In the healthcare sector, she has recently been involved in the establishment of a number of GP-led provider organisations.

INSURANCE company Swinton has boosted its strategic growth pan for its commercial division with the appointment of a national business development manager.

Chartered insurance broker Alastair Denness, who has more than 28 years of commercial insurance experience, has worked at Swinton Commercial for five years as regional manager.

In his new role, Alastair, 47, will work to source, develop and manage relationships with new and existing national introducers and affinity partners to increase lead volumes and new business sales for the broker.

Swinton Commercial is the dedicated commercial insurance division of the Swinton Group with 33 commercial offices across the UK and Northern Ireland.

MANCHESTER Digital, the independent trade association for the North West’s digital sector, has appointed Rachel Thompson as events and marketing manager.
 
Formerly with media website How-Do and most recently pro.manchester. in her new role she will support the development of organisation’s skills and talent programme.

Katie Gallagher, business development director at Manchester Digital, said: “Rachel is a fantastic new addition to our growing team.
