Manchester council issues CPO for London Road Fire Station site

MANCHESTER City Council has issued a Compulsory Purchase Order to take over the London Road Fire Station, which is owned by Britannia Hotels. The council has issued a public notice this morning stating that it is submitting the order to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, which will now decide whether to approve the order.A spokeswoman for Manchester City Council said: "This important building has been lying empty and largely disused since it was acquired by Britannia more than 20 years ago. Hear hear. It is a disgrace thjat such a prominent and Listed building has been neglected and kept empty for 20+ years. Britannia should be ashamed of themselves and they alone are responsible for the Council considering itself forced to take this action.
