Manchester Digital eyes 450 apprenticeships

MANCHESTER Digital has unveiled a plan to create 450 apprentices in the sector over the next two years.

The trade body for the North West’s digital businesses says a partnership with the National Apprenticeship Service could create the positions by working closely with industry and education.

It will target young people who are seeking an alternative to university and put them in touch with member businesses.

According to Manchester Digital, around 50% of North West businesses operating in the sector struggle to fill vacancies despite high youth unemployment.

It said their members were keen to hire apprentices and train young people on the job.

Katie Gallagher, business development director at Manchester Digital, said: “This partnership with the National Apprenticeship Survey will enable us to encourage more employers in the North West to engage with apprenticeships and grow their talent.

“It will also give young people in the region an alternative route into the digital sector which will allow them to learn on the job and gain nationally recognised qualifications.”

Businesses interested in getting involved should go to manchesterdigital.co.uk.
