Rose-effect boosts Amercian Golf sales

AMERICAN Golf, the Warrington retailer, has reported a surge in sales and online traffic after Justin Rose’s victory in the US Open championship last week.

Rose became the first English winner of the competition for 43 years as he overcame Phil Mickelson at the Merion course in Pennsylvania.

In the week following his triumph American Golf recorded a 16.4% increase in total sales across its store network, compared to the week after the 2012 tournament.

Traffic to its website has also surged, and was up 57%  year-on-year.

Among the retailer’s most popular items were Justin Rose’s TaylorMade clubs.

American Golf chief executive Kevin Style said; “Justin’s triumph in the US Open is good for golf and good for business.  It was a perfectly timed victory coming at the start of the peak golf season and will help to generate interest in the game.

“It’s not only existing golfers that have been snapping up equipment.  We have had a lot of inquiries from people keen to take up the game for the first time.”
