Retrofit Roadshow rolls into Liverpool

LIVERPOOL will be the first city to host one of 12 retrofit events that are taking place across the UK this autumn.

The Retrofit Roadshows aim to highlight opportunities for making existing buildings more energy efficient, and also showcase the latest technology and materials that can be used.

The Liverpool event promises to explore the business case for retrofits and the feasibility of delivering at scale.

It will also showcase pioneering public sector projects, debate funding mechanisms and legal issues, and discuss how the retrofit economy can drive growth, jobs and regeneration. The low carbon retrofit market is said to be worth £50bn in Liverpool alone.

Cllr Tim Moore said: “To meet government carbon reduction targets the UK needs to retrofit 700,000 properties a year – that’s 13,000 per week. Already government incentives, the Green Deal and Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) are driving low carbon retrofits, but in five years’ time energy efficiency legislation will also affect property owners’ income and assets so the demand for upgrading housing and buildings will only rise.

“Retrofits will clearly play a significant role in the future of our construction industry and businesses should make sure they act now so that they don’t miss out.”

The event, organised by Retro Expo, will take place at the Arena and Convention Centre on September 3. Speakers include: Chris Foran, Peel Holdings; Christoph Harwood, Marksman Consulting; Dr Will Swann, Salford University; Steph Ramsden, British Gas Business Services; and Maggi Howard, Project Viridis.
