Regeneration Liverpool targets ex-school site for 190 homes

REGENERATION Liverpool, a joint venture between regeneration specialist Sigma Inpartnership and Liverpool City Council, has signed an option agreement with the city to redevelop the site of the former Queen Mary School in Fazakerley.

Countryside Sigma, a joint venture with Countryside Properties, will now seek planning permission for 190 homes on the 12-acre site.

The move is a key part of the council’s plan to move housing from a site in Stonebridge that it has earmarked for commercial development. It is understood to be trying to lure Amazon to the 98-acre Stonebridge Cross site, off the East Lancs Road in Gilmoss.

Developer Gallan Stoford Liverpool submitted plans for a 1.2 million sq ft distribution warehouse on July 26 which they say has a potential “multi-national occupier” and could employ 1,470 people.

Graeme Hogg, director at Sigma Inpartnership, said: “The development of the Queen Mary School site is a really exciting opportunity for the partnership to deliver more quality housing for families, couples and individuals in the area. We are delighted to be bringing forward this site and we look forward to working with the local community on the proposals. I am confident that given the quality of work we are producing at Norris Green Village they will be delighted with the outcome.”

Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for Housing, Councillor Ann O’Byrne, said: “This is another significant step in meeting the Mayoral pledge on housing. We are delivering good  quality homes of the type people want throughout the city and I am very pleased that Regeneration Liverpool is planning to bring this site back into use.”

Regeneration Liverpool is already handling six sites: housing at Norris Green; Stonebridge Cross; a new Lime St/Renshaw St Knowledge Quarter; a district centre for Edge Hill; a project at the former Gatehouse comprehensive school site; and the Lodge Lane baths site.
