Clarke Energy bolts-on Bangladesh business

NORTH West based power plant specialist Clarke Energy has increased its international reach with an acquisition in Bangladesh.

The £207m turnover Knowsley-based group, which is part-owned by private equity firm ECI, has bought Orient Power Systems’ Bangladesh operations for an undisclosed sum.

Around 120 Orient Power staff will move over to Clarke Energy following the deal.

As a result of the acquisition Clarke Energy’s long standing relationship with manufacturer GE Jenbacher has been extended, with the company  appointed  as distributor and service provider for Jenbacher gas engines in Bangladesh.  

Jenbacher has more tha 450 engines installed in Bangladesh , each with an electrical output of between 0.3-4.4MW. This installed base helps to maintain stable power supplies for the population and industry.

The Bangladesh operations will benefit from their proximity to Clarke Energy’s existing operations in India its Bengali-speaking team in Kolkata.
 
Jamie Clarke, chief executive of Clarke Energy said: “This is an important milestone for Clarke Energy which will further expand our global operations and our presence in South Asia.

“There is a large Jenbacher installed base in Bangladesh and existing customers will benefit from our after-sales support ethos. It is our intention from the outset to focus on increasing in-country spare parts and service engineer coverage in order to help support the availability of Jenbacher units in Bangladesh.”
