Boutique hotel plans for Northern Quarter

A PROPERTY developer has submitted plans for a small boutique hotel in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Mujtaba Rana wants to convert the former Unique Woman clothes shop and textile warehouse at 57 Newton Street into a 17-bed hotel.

A planning statement filed by Birmingham-based A:P Architects says the conversion will provide “a contemporary, stylish and affordable hotel… contributing to social and business needs in the Northern Quarter and wider city centre area.”

The building, which is next door to the police museum, is within Stevenson Square Conservation area but is not listed.

Subject to planning approvals Mr Rana plans to start work on the site in November.
