Dominvs submits plans for Piccadilly hotel

DOMINVS Group has submitted plans for a 308-bed four-star hotel on the site of the old Employment Exchange in Manchester.

The Aytoun Street scheme, first revealed by TheBusinessDesk.com in July, should be finished by late 2015, subject to planning.

London-based Dominvs is backed by Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia, the entrepreneur who sold Euro Car Parts for £280m two years ago.

It has already built up a portfolio of residential, commercial and industrial property assets, mainly around London, and it moved

into hospitality in April with the acquisition of the Hotelier Group which operates hotels in Sheffield, Darlington and Dumfries under the Aston brand.

Dominvs bought the Employment Exchange from accountancy group Deloitte in its capacity as administrator of Liverpool-based Albany Estates which had plans to build a 44-storey tower with a mix of apartments and hotel rooms on the site.

Director Preet Ahluwalia said: “Our company primarily focuses on residential, commercial and industrial property opportunities, but the appeal to restore and revive life to such a historical and topical site was far too appealing to overlook.”

The hotel will sit behind Malmaison and next to the Doubletree by Hilton at Piccadilly Place. Construction has started on a 330-bed Motel One on London Road and Yo Sushi! entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe has submitted plans for a 258-bed hotel under the Yotel brand at 12-16 Piccadilly.
