Appointments: Promotions galore at Brabners; Brooks takes on Corridor Manchester role & more

NORTH West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has announced the promotion of five associates to partners and 16 lawyers to associate.

The new partners are: Joseph Shelston and Lynn Mullan in the employment department, Adam Ryan in the corporate team and Carol Couse and David Bentham in the sports/commercial team.

The associates are: Colin Bell, Mark Traynor, Ruth Powell, Simon Lewis and Stephen Roseby in corporate team. Becky Spears, Dewi Paddock, Helen Brown, Mark Niven, Matthew O’Brien and Sian Ridings in the property team.

Kate Venables has been promoted in the  employment department, Claire Brown and Katie Giles in litigation, Katherine Livesey in the family team and Stuart Baird in the sports.

The promotions have been made across the firm’s offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Preston.

CORRIDOR Manchester has appointed Professor John Brooks, Vice Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University as its new chair.

The public-private sector organisation, which brings together The University of Manchester, Manchester City Council, MMU and the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to drive economic growth along the Corridor – the Oxford Road area of the city, was formerly chaired by the late Professor Alan Gilbert, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Manchester.

Prof Brooks said:  “I am honoured to be appointed chair of Corridor Manchester, the partnership has a very important role to play in the future of the Oxford Road area of the city and I look forward to helping deliver the vision to 2020.

“My appointment is, however, touched with sadness following the death of Professor Alan Gilbert who chaired Corridor Manchester from its start. 

“His strong leadership and commitment to Corridor Manchester has provided me and the board with clear direction for the future of Corridor Manchester.”

LANCASHIRE-based Driver Group has appointed former Carillion executive Gary Turner as a non executive director. Mr Turner, 51, who retired last year will join the board  on October 1.

Rossendale-based Driver provides a range of consultancy services to the construction and engineering industries. It specialises in dispute resolution.
