Appointments: Saffery Champness; Suttons Group & more

CHARTERED accountants Saffery Champness has appointed two new partners at its Manchester office.
 
Mike Hodges joins from Mazars where he was a partner heading up the regional tax team and Catherine Desmond, who specialises in advising rural businesses, is promoted to partner after 10 years with the firm.

National managing partner Jonathan Fox said: “Mike has worked across a broad range of industry sectors and is extremely knowledgeable on tax planning for individuals and the tax and accounting aspects of corporate finance deals.
 
“On the landed estates side we are fortunate to have the benefit of Catherine’s expertise in succession, inheritance and trust issues.”

The national firm’s Manchester office is based at City Tower.

CHESHIRE- headquartered international logistics and supply chain specialist, Suttons Group, has appointed a  former employee as regional director for its European business.

David Kerr previously worked for Suttons from 1995-99 and has rejoined the company from DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd, where he was commercial director for seven years.

He said: “I’m happy to be back at Suttons at such a significant point in its growth. Suttons is a truly international business now and its reputation for customer service delivery is what fuelled my return.”  

As regional director, Europe, Mr Kerr will be managing a team of 85 in the UK and across mainland Europe. He will be based at Suttons head office in Widnes.

FINANCIAL recruitment firm Rowan Finance has expanded its team with Peter Holt joining as associate director and Julia Jerjomina as a resourcer.

Mr Holt joins the Manchester company with 14 years’ experience and was previously at BTG Recruitment.

Rowan Finance is part of the Rowan Group, founded in 2011 by recruitment sector veteran Richard Robinson and colleagues David Anwyl and Paul Waite. The Rowan Group is backed by EV Group.

SHARON Edwards has joined Liverpool-based social enterprise PSS as financial director.

Formerly called the Liverpool Personal Service Society, PSS was responsible for social innovations such as Age Concern, the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Relate.

Commenting on her new role Miss Edwards said: “PSS is a terrific organisation and I am delighted to be joining at such an exciting time as it undergoes a major rebrand to take it into the 21st century.”

ALTRINCHAM law firm, Myers Lister Price (MLP), has promoted wills trustss and probate solicitor Lesley Gill to director in recognition of the growth and development of her practice area.

Heading a team of five, Miss Gill said: “I joined MLP due to the firm’s solid reputation for private client work and I’ve invested a huge amount of effort into our client relationships.”

LAW firm Browne Jacobson has made two new hires to its health team in Manchester.

Newcomers partner Dr Andrew Peel and associate solicitor Heather Caddy join from Hill Dickinson’s Sheffield office.
 
Dr Peel is a dual-qualified medical practitioner and lawyer specialising in advising private sector health care providers and insurers on a wide range of clinical negligence, regulatory, criminal and inquest matters.

Simon Tait, head of health at Browne Jacobson, said: “These are two key strategic appointments for us in Manchester as we seek to further build on the strength of our health practice and establish a firmer footprint in the North West.”
