The housebuilder’s bid for 2,000 homes at Sutton New Hall Farm, Ledsham Road, near Little Sutton, attracted strong local opposition and was knocked back by the council in June.

But a scaled back plan was approved on December 5.

A spokesperson for Redrow Homes (NW) said: “As part of this new garden neighbourhood scheme we will also be providing over 40 hectares of open space, extensive wetland and biodiversity measures, sports facilities and allotments.

“We will also be contributing around £2.7m towards sustainable transport, making significant financial contributions to improve shopping facilities in Little Sutton and extending local GP surgeries as well as providing land and money to build a new primary school.”
