Amec secures major Azerbaijan contract

GLOBAL engineering group Amec has won a $974m construction management contract from BP for two offshore oil platforms in Azerbaijan.

It has picked up the work as part of a joint venture with Turkish construction group Tekfen and Azfen, a joint venture between Tekfen and Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company.

Amec, which has operations in Knutsford, Warrington and Northwich, said construction works under the contract have just started and should compelte by 2018.

Chief executive Samir Brikho said: “Winning this excellent contract supports our growth strategy and comes as a result of our successful and safe delivery of projects in this region for BP-operated projects. I am proud of our commitment to the region and the contribution we have made to the growth of Azerbaijan’s national oil industry.”
