Liverpool to get another Titanic hotel

LIVERPOOL’S Stanley Dock hotel is set to open in the summer as the Titanic Hotel.

Stanley Dock Properties, owned by Harcourt Developments’ chairman Pat Doherty, is close to completing the £36m transformation of the North Warehouse into a 153-bed four-star hotel.

The scheme has been delayed after subcontractors walked out over non-payment. A £5.5m Regional Growth Fund grant for the project, held back while due diligence was being carried out, has now been released.

However, the choice of name has angered the owners of Signature Living who are working on their own Titanic hotel concept at the former offices of the Titanic’s owner, the White Star Line.

Stanley Dock Properties also has plans to convert the dock’s tobacco warehouse into apartments and wants to turn the Rum Warehouse into a conference and banqueting space.

Director Pat Power said: “This is set to be a spectacular addition to the tourism and leisure landscape, not just for Liverpool but for the UK.

“We have created a hotel which will be generous in size and expressive in its personality, with a genuine devotion from quality and to customer service. It is a hotel much like the city of Liverpool, which we believe will be imbued with the warmth and hospitality of the Liverpool personality.”

Signature Living is planning to call its hotel on the corner of The Strand and James Street, 30 James Street – The Home of the Titanic.

Director Lawrence Kenwright told the Liverpool Echo: “We have no links to this other venture. I’m concerned that people arriving in the city will confuse the two hotels, and in the end that could be bad for business for both.”
