Former banker Winterbottom in SME advice launch

A FORMER senior banker with 20 year’s experience, has launched a new venture to help owners and managers of small businesses become more effective and productive.

Paul Winterbottom, who was previously head of regional operations for NatWest in the North and RBS in Scotland, has launched The Alternative Board in Manchester, a move which he sees as a return to his roots advising small firms.

The Alternative Board – originally an American concept – helps business owners make better decisions through a combination of peer advice, on-line support tools and one -to-one coaching to improve business performance.

Mr Winterbottom said: “I’ve got a brilliant opportunity to be able to help owners grow their businesses and develop themselves in ways they wouldn’t otherwise; that’s a privilege and something I’m really looking forward to.

“As well as giving me great satisfaction and enjoyment, working close to home again will allow me to be actively involved in the local business community and spend more time with my family and friends.”

TAB was established in the US 24 years ago and came to the UK in 2009, initially in Yorkshire. Since then more than 450 business owners have benefited from board membership and there are now over 50 active boards in the UK.

Mr Winterbottom, who has taken the Manchester franchise, joins existing TAB business owners, Mike Tabernacle in South Lancashire and Ian Gregory in mid-Cheshire to enhance and grow the TAB offering in the region.
