Northwich traders back Cheshire’s first BID

TRADERS in Northwich have voted for a retail business improvement district (BID), the first in Cheshire.

They will pay a levy on top of their rates over the next five years which will fund £1.25m of town centre improvements and promotional initiatives.

The organisers say this will transform Northwich, making it a “destination of choice for shoppers”.

Gaynor Sinar, chair of the Northwich BID Steering Group, said: “This is the biggest opportunity Northwich town traders have had in 40 years, and it’s brilliant that Northwich has taken control and voted to have a say in our future.

“The ‘yes’ vote has ensured Northwich can develop in to an exciting destination for consumers, traders, businesses and residents, highlighting the exceptional quality and range of products and services our high streets have to offer, as well as showcasing our town’s extraordinary heritage, truly putting Northwich on the map.”

There are now around 120 town centre BIDs in the country and another is being lined up in Chester.
