easyJet to add Madeira service

BUDGET airline easyJet is to begin flights to Madeira, which will be its 35th destination from Manchester when the service begins next year.

The route to Funchal, Madeira will launch in February 2015 and will operate twice per week on Mondays and Saturdays.

easyJet will operate the flights using a 180-seater Airbus A320 and expects the Portuguese island to attract around 14,000 visitors during the first 12 months.

Ali Gayward, commercial manager at  easyJet, said: “We’re pleased to add Funchal, Madeira to easyJet’s growing network of destinations from Manchester Airport which now spans the UK, Russia, Middle East, Iceland and Europe. We believe the beautiful island of Madeira will prove a popular addition to our network thanks its array of beaches, rich culture and affordable accommodation.”

Stephen Turner, aviation commercial director at Manchester Airports Group, said: “It’s fantastic to see easyJet continuing to grow their presence here at Manchester Airport and adding another sun destination to their route programme means passengers will have even more choice for spring and summer 2015.”
