Balfour Beatty appointed to Baron’s Quay

BALFOUR Beatty Construction has been appointed as the main contractor to deliver the £80m retail and leisure scheme at Barons Quay in Northwich town centre.

It was selected ahead of three other shortlisted contractors to develop the 26-acre site on the banks of the River Weaver.

The 300,000 sq ft scheme already has two anchor tenants – a 68,000 sq ft Asda and five-screen Odeon cinema. The development is being managed by Chehsire West and Chester Council, which is also the site’s major landowner.

Councillor Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and economy, said: “This is a key milestone in the delivery of a major development project that will create jobs, vibrancy and prosperity, and ultimately transform Northwich into one of the North West’s busiest market towns.”

The first phase, which includes the cinema, restaurants, the Asda, and car parking, should be finished in late 2016. A second phase of shops and apartments will complete the following year.

Joint agents on the scheme are Lambert Smith Hampton and Tushingham Moore.
