Business and tourism chiefs hope to score with LFC US tour

LIVERPOOL business and tourism chiefs are hoping to score with investors in the US during Liverpool Football Club’s pre-season tour.

Marketing Liverpool and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce are working with the football club to make the most of opportunities to promote the city region, with a focus on the match against Manchester City in New York’s Yankee Stadium on July 30.

On the day of the LFC game against Manchester City, the Liverpool group of city bodies host an event in the Big Apple with key industry organisations from the US to discuss new opportunities.

The ground work has already been laid, Liverpool city officials visited New York to capitalise on the Beatles’ 50th anniversary of the country earlier this year, as well as 2015 seeing Cunard once again offering a transatlantic cruise between the two cities.

Chris Brown, director of Marketing Liverpool said: “Earlier this year we visited New York to capitalize on the Beatles 50th anniversary celebrations and from that we recognise the significance and benefits of undertaking business when our international brands are in countries like the USA.

“We are excited about the potential of working with LFC and the Chamber of Commerce in New York and are sure that it will create opportunities for all.”

Tom Cassidy, commercial tourism manager at Liverpool FC, said: “Using international visits, such as our tour to the US, is a fantastic way for us to come together to showcase what our hometown has to offer and I’m sure it will bring some exciting opportunities to Liverpool.”

Andy Snell, director of international trade at Liverpool and Sefton Chambers of Commerce, added: “This week we have had Chambers of Commerce from 32 nations here in Liverpool, including significant representation from USA. Liverpool Football Club is a huge draw and played a key role in the event, showcasing the city and helping local businesses forge new international relationships.

“This partnership model can now be tested overseas and we are delighted to be involved.”
